How To Go About Covering Up Pimples

Despite the fact that there are many safe and effective over-the-counter and prescription medications for the treatment of acne, getting rid ot acne does take time and so, while the medicine is doing its work, a lot of people want to cover up their spots as much as possible.

That said, it can be argued that because this is a common condition affecting roughly 85% of the population between the ages of about twelve and twenty-four you really shouldn't worry about covering it up at all because nearly all of us have to go through it. Nonetheless, try telling that to a youngster who is going out on that crucial first date.

Women in particular tend to suffer more because, whether you like it or not, women are judged more on their looks. However, they also have a ready-made answer in the form of makeup.

Normal makeup can cause problems and, although it will cover up your spots, it can also worsen the underlying condition. The solution here is therefore to buy makeup that is formulated for people with acne and that means makeup which is labeled as 'non-comedogenic'. This term is derived from the word 'comedone' which is the medical name for the whiteheads and blackheads accompanying most mild forms of acne.

Your first line of defense should be a concealer that can be dabbed onto pimples using a disposable sponge. You have to be careful though in using a concealer and use just as much as you need and no more.

Next it is on to a foundation which is excellent for blending the tones of your skin and which again must be used sparingly but enough to achieve an even overall cover. You will find that foundation is not only very good for covering your acne spots but, because it is less reflective than your skin itself, it also softens out the shadows and lessens the contrast which is often produced by the bumps which accompany acne.

Finally, a light covering of powder can also help to further even out color tones, reduce shadow and eliminate contrast.

But what about the men? Well, there are two approaches here. First, you can follow the women and apply makeup and you will discover that there is makeup available nowadays which is specially formulated to be used by men. However, if you feel that this is not for you then the second approach is to buy one of the range of treatments that contain acne covering compounds to help cure the condition and hide its appearance at the same time.

Of course it would be great if we had a proactive acne treatment which could get rid of acne fast but at present clearing acne tends to be a somewhat slow process and so, until we have some products and treatments that cure acne fast, effectively concealing the condition will continue to be important for many sufferers.
